Monday, January 13 - No School for all grades

SMS Family Trivia and Game Night
Join us for an evening of fun and friendly competition at Sartell Middle School on Friday, January 31, from 6:00 to 7:30pm! Enjoy a variety of activities, including Bingo, board games, and trivia. Admission is free, and concessions featuring pizza will be available for purchase. Please note that students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Don’t miss this great opportunity to connect with the SMS community!

Congratulations to the following students who won top honors at the District Spelling Bee held on Monday, January 6th.

1st Place  - Dylan Ward 8th grade
2nd Place - Eli Wood   8th grade
3rd Place - Ingrid Johnson 7th grade
 
These students will represent Sartell at the Regional Spelling Bee to be held on February 11th at St. Cloud State University.

All grades: American Math Association (AMC8) repeat
The American Math Association competition test will be administered on Wednesday, January 22nd at 2:00 pm in the North Flex room.  SMS has reserved 20 spots for students who excel in Math.  Spots will be filled on a first come/first serve basis.  There is NO COST to students.  Registration fees have been paid by SMS.  Students interested in taking this competition math test can print this permission form or pick one up in the front office or from their math teacher. 

The MAA’s American Mathematics Competitions program leads the nation in strengthening the mathematical capabilities of the next generation of problem-solvers. Through classroom resources and friendly competition, the MAA AMC program helps America’s educators identify talent and foster a love of mathematics. The MAA AMC program positively impacts the analytical skills needed for future careers in an innovative society.

All Grades:  Optimist International Essay Contest (repeat)
Put your writing skills to work and you might just earn some cash. The  Central Minnesota Noon Optimist Club is sponsoring its annual essay contest.  This year's theme is: 
How Optimism Has Paved My Road to Success
The contest is open to any student under the age of 19, with opportunity for local prizes, and a district scholarship.  Contest information may be picked up in the front office.  Here is a  link to the official rules.

The following prizes will be given locally:
1st place     $500
2nd place    $250
3rd place.    $150

A local winner will also be entered into an area essay contest (the Dakota's, Manitoba, Minnesota District of Optimist International) where the first place prize is a $2500 scholarship.

Deadline:  Local contest entries will be due to Mrs. Dornburg  (drop off in front office) NO LATER THAN 3:30 pm on February 4th
